The 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 for this year comes with couple changes. Most of them are under the body, which means that there is no redesign for now. Two new colors are added and few changes in deployment of technology.
The 1500 is the smallest pickup truck in Silverado family. Other Silverado models, 2500 and 3500, also receive updates for 2018-year model. The current model is seventh generation of this truck, it is on US market since 1960. In 2014 it was released as all-new model and it was refreshed with 2016-year model. The 2018 Silverado 1500 is now available with two new colors (Cajun Red Metallic, Havana Metallic). Tire pressure monitor system now includes tire fill alert while LTZ trim is available with eAssist package. All models are equipped with rear-view camera as standard while WT model gets standard MyLink 7-inch radio system.
2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 design review
There is a long list of possibility to combine your Silverado model. This includes three cab configurations (Regular, Double, Crew) with same number of bed sizes (Long, Standard, Short). On top of that there are eight trim levels to choose from: Custom, WT, LT, LT Z71, LTZ, LTZ Z71 and High Country. We can say that a good thing is that you cannot combine every trim with all bed and cab configurations. There are nine exterior colors available for the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500: Black, Cajun Red Tintcoat (new), Deep Ocean Blue Metallic, Graphite Metallic, Havana Metallic (new), Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic and Summit White
What is the most noticeable on this pickup truck is its hood. Its design looks like a raised cowl-induction hood from classic muscle car. With this part of body, from the driver seat you may feel like you are driving a powerful machine. Standard feature on front fascia are xenon HID (high-intensity-discharge) projector headlights and LED daytime running lights. Higher trims (LTZ and High Country) are available with standard LED headlights.
The 2018 Silverado 1500 is available in three cab styles: Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab. Regular Cab is available with two bed lengths: 6’6” Standard and 8’ Long. Double cab is available with only 5’8” Short bed length while Crew Cab comes with either 5’8” Short or 6’6” Standard bed.
All Silverado truck are not equipped with fancy details like competitors. It has many features same as a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500, such as ventilated and heated front seats, heated steering wheel or power adjustable pedals. This final touch is more influenced when it comes to higher trims, when their price can go over $50k. In that case competitor’s models like Ram Longhorn or Ford F-150 Platinum are fully equipped with high quality and luxury details, which is not a case with Silverado’s LTZ.
Silverado WT and LS come with MyLink infotainment system with 7-inch color touchscreen while integrated navigation with 8-inch screen is reserved for higher trims. There is also 4G LTE connectivity with Wi-Fi hotspot. With last year Teen Driver feature is standard for all models. Single zone air-conditioning is available with lower trims while higher models come with dual-zone automatic climate control. Just like all GM models, the SiriusXM Satellite Radio is also a part of standard equipment. There is also available Bose Sound audio system with 6 speakers. For better comfort there is noise cancellation system.
Beside long list of passive safety features, there are also driver assist systems available. With Enhanced Driver Alert Package available on most models the 2018 Chevy Silverado comes equipped with Lane Keep Assist system, park assist on front and rear, Forward Collision Alert, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking and IntelliBeam headlights.
2018 Silverado specs – no diesel for 1500
The 2018 Silverado 1500 is available with three engines. With 2017-year model Silverado got diesel powerplant, but it is reserved only for 2500 and 3500 trucks. There is no diesel for 1500. It is powered only by petrol engines. Base engine is 4.3-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Second engine is 5.3-liter V8 and it delivers 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine is 6.2-liter V8 and it produces 420 horsepower and460 lb-ft of torque.

There are two transmissions available. First Hydra-Matic 6-speed automatic is available with 4.3L and 5.3L engines while truck with 6.2L engine are equipped with 8-speed automatic. This gearbox is optional with mid-engine. This pickup truck is available with either 2WD or 4WD systems. Towing capacity is around 4,400 pounds but when equipped with NHT Max Trailering Package this number raise up to 5,670 lbs.
2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 price
The cost of the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 are a truck based, and it starts from around $28,000 for base WT model with 2WD while LS 2WD is available for just under $31,000. 4WD add about $4,000 and if you want the 5.3-liter engine you have to pay around $1,200 more. The top model on Silverado trim list, High Country, starts from $52,500 for 5.3L 2WD version. Fully equipped, with 6.2L and 4WD is available for around %58,000. Compared to competition, it is in price range of Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra while Toyota Tundra is a couple bucks pricier.
