2019 Honda Insight Hybrid review – Honda Insight is a hybrid car and its last generation was producing from 2010 – 2014. It was launched together with Prius, but Insight was smaller vehicle but with lower fuel economy. With Toyota Prius C sales of the Toyota Insight fall down, and with it its production.
From the mouth of Takahiro Hachigo, Honda’s president and CEO we find out that,: “In the long term, electrified vehicles are key to the future of carbon-free mobility.” First clues about the new Honda Insight 2019 should be in January, at the Detroit Motor Show.
2019 Honda Insight Hybrid redesign
Good news are that test mule of the next generation of Honda Insight spotted testing on roads in Europe. It uses the body of the Honda City but it is stretched in all four ways in order to fit all mechanical features of the new Insight. But there are also some differences. For instance, its hood is placed higher and it also have a bump in the middle. On the rear we can notice that its chassis extend beyond the rear bumper.
Honda already has the Clarity Fuel Cell in Electric and Plug-in Hybrid versions in midsize sedan segment. For this reason we don’t expect that Insight will keep City’s sedan body style, and it should keep its hatchback shape, just like its main rival, Prius. The current Insight is available only as a Hybrid but in order to fight the Toyota Prius for their position on Hybrid car market.
Honda Insight 2019 Hybrid specs
There are no rumors about Honda Insight 2019 powertrain. It could borrow it from Clarity Plug-In Hybrid. It comes with 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle inline-4 paired with electric motor which delivers 181 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. In Clarity’s case, the gas engine uses as range extender.
Honda announced that their goal by 2030 is to have two thirds of production in some kind of electrification. Their main priority will be plug-in hybrid vehicles but there will be some room for fuel cell and pure electric cars. This fall we will know more about their plans, and we hope that we could hear some rumors about the 2019 Honda Insight.
2019 Honda Insight Hybrid price and release date
The 2019 Honda Insight is in early stage of testing. If we consider this fact we can expect that it is going to be released in late 2018. Final result is going to be the plug-in hybrid with price that could be under $20,000. With this cost and with good fuel economy numbers it could be a good competitor of the Toyota’s Prius.
